SECAUCUS, N.J., April 9, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Panasonic Corporation of North America today announced an innovative educational initiative aimed at inspiring greater environmental awareness among America's children and young adults.
Working with Panasonic Kid Witness News schools around the country, the company invited middle and high school students to create short Public Service Announcement (PSAs) videos that promote greater eco-awareness and environmental sustainability. After careful review and narrowing the field to five kid-produced PSAs, Panasonic is now asking students around the country to watch these eco message videos and vote for their favorite one. They should visit: www.ecoeffectsvideos.com.
By watching the videos and selecting their favorite, children and young adults ages 13-21 will be automatically enrolled in a sweepstakes to win valuable Panasonic prizes.

"Environmental education for our children is crucial to achieving the environmentally sustainable society that Panasonic envisions and strives for in our everyday business activities," said David Thompson, Director of Panasonic's Corporate Environmental Department.
Panasonic's commitment to proactive environmental stewardship runs deep and is well recognized. As early as 1971, Panasonic's founder Konosuke Matsushita spoke about the importance of environmental stewardship. "Even though industrial development is important, it should not result in the destruction of the natural environment…," he wrote more than four decades ago. This fundamental belief led Panasonic to adopt an Environmental Declaration in 1991, distinguishing the company as one of the first electronic manufacturers to do so.
Panasonic was named to the 2012 Dow Jones Sustainability Index, included in the Global 100 Index of the Most Sustainable Companies, and listed in the 'Top 10' in Newsweek's "Green Rankings of Global Companies.
Kid Witness News is a global video education program supported by Panasonic, with the aim of boosting creativity and communication skills and fostering teamwork through video production by children at the elementary and secondary school levels. More than 130,000 children around the world have participated in the KWN program since it first began in the U.S. in 1989. Environmental protection is one of three primary themes of the KWN video contest. Panasonic is planning an international awards ceremony for May 2013.
