Peak International Delivering Eco-Friendly Trays, Reels and Services to Semiconductor Companies
HONG KONG, July 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Peak International Limited
( PEAK), a market leader in plastics design, engineering, production
and supply chain solutions, today announced that it has completed the first
phase of its push to lead the semiconductor packaging industry in
eco-friendly plastics. Over the last few weeks the company has announced
breakthrough UltraLite(TM) plastic trays and reels specifically engineered
to reduce the need for increased levels of plastic disposal and its
recycling division, SemiCycle(TM), announced it has recycled over 100
million plastic trays since its inception. The company also announced that
SemiCycle would significantly increase its activity in assisting all
semiconductor companies in their plastics recycling efforts.
"Both SemiCycle and UltraLite represent what has been an intentional
move in a direction that matters to our customers and the people who
purchase their products. Peak's R&D group has engineered plastics with
characteristics that can affect fuel consumption by reducing weight in
transit. And we continue to deliver services that help our customers keep
plastic waste from entering our environment," said Dean Personne, Peak's
president and chief executive officer. "Peak will continue to drive
leadership in this area and do so while meeting the total cost of ownership
requirements for our most demanding customers."
Almost all of the major semiconductor companies have stated
eco-friendly or "green" policies. Samsung, for example, has an Eco-Product
program with halogen-free, RoHS-compliant products that include lead-free
balls, bumps and finishes as well as green procurement policies governing
RoHS compliant materials and components. Both Intel and AMD also have green
policies centered on product ecology, recycling, and global climate change.
"Peak is a leader in this area for all semiconductor packaging
companies," said Jon Ewanich, president of Silicon-Ops. "They are
intentionally engineering lighter-weight, lower-cost plastics with
increased strength that can reduce churn rates in plastic usage and
disposal. And their SemiCycle division further reduces the risk to the
environment by collecting and recycling used plastics."
With offices in Hong Kong, manufacturing facilities in Shenzhen (PRC),
and distribution centers worldwide, Peak offers products used by some of
the world's largest companies for high-speed, automated manufacturing
processes that require dimensional stability and precision tolerances. Peak
has a wide array of standard packaging products, large manufacturing
capacity, tooling and design expertise, and a worldwide footprint to
support even the toughest JIT requirements.
About UltraLite
A unique combination of tooling, process technology and materials,
UltraLite was built to improve on existing packaging designs. UltraLite is
delivered with lower weight, increased strength and lower overall product
costs. The reduced weight can translate into reduced air and ground
shipping costs throughout the supply chain. This new process also reduces
material waste and recycling volumes. The designs are optimized to industry
recognized JEDEC standards, thus allowing the use of a single tray design
for each package type. And its increased strength ensures a longer tray
life and decreased plastic disposal volumes.
About SemiCycle
SemiCycle is the leader in semiconductor industry recycling. The
company collects most types of hard plastic semiconductor trays and
processes them in Shenzhen, the PRC. Founded in 1992, the company has
processed over 100 million trays and saved over 15,000 tons of plastic
material from entering the environment.
About Peak International Limited
Peak International Limited is a leading supplier of
precision-engineered packaging products for storage, transportation and
automated handling of semiconductor devices and other electronic components
as well as precision medical products. Peak also operates warehouses
throughout the world and offers JIT services to leading semiconductor
manufacturers and assemblers.
