The grants, available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, will go to 133 schools in nearly 40 districts to buy ovens, refrigerators, dishwashers and other equipment to ensure quality meals are served in schools.
Consistent with the priorities of President Obama and Congress in enacting the recovery bill,

- Conserve energy and save taxpayer funds by replacing older, inefficient equipment with equipment that is Energy Star-rated.
- Make equipment purchases by

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act included nearly
Priority in awarding the funds was given to schools that have at least half of their student enrollment eligible for free- and reduced-price meals.
The funding will enable these schools to purchase 222 pieces of equipment in all, including nearly 100 pieces of cooking equipment, more than 60 refrigerators and/or freezers, 20 dishwashers and more than 40 serving lines, salad bars and cabinets.
A complete list of schools receiving the food service equipment funds follows. The list also can be found on the state's stimulus Web site, www.Recovery.PA.gov, and the Department of Education's Web site, www.pde.state.pa.us.
