Pennsylvania Receives $1.25 Million Federal Recovery Act Grant
Labor Market Information Grant Will Help Identify, Prepare for Green Careers
HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Edward G. Rendell today announced that Pennsylvania received a $1.25 million Labor Market Information grant through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to help develop green economy jobs for Pennsylvanians.
"We are working to connect job seekers with great careers in the state's most important industries," Governor Rendell said. "This funding will help put our improved workforce systems to use connecting tens of thousands of Pennsylvanians with careers in the quickly emerging green economy."
The grant will be used by the Department of Labor & Industry, local workforce investment boards and other workforce development agencies and partners to collect and analyze detailed information on occupational demand and skill requirements necessary to target training, education and re-employment investments to green careers.
"The green economy, and careers in the industries that drive it, are critical to the commonwealth's economic recovery and competitiveness in the coming years," Governor Rendell said. "By continuing to improve our ability to collect, analyze, understand and apply labor market data, we improve our workforce's chances of competing and succeeding in the knowledge-based workplace of the 21st century."
