BOSTON, April 30, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In a 35 minute meeting yesterday, Secretary Polanowicz reaffirmed his commitment to put together a reunification plan that ensures Justina Pelletier is returned home. The reunification plan is expected by the end of the week.
Jennifer Pelletier, Justina's older sister, said, "I personally shared with Secretary Polanowicz the inhumanity my little sister has been put through DCF and the Wayside Youth Facility as well as the pain and hurt my family has experienced for almost 15 months."
Pelletier continued: "I appreciate Secretary Polanowicz telling me how he wants to see Justina returned back to our family. However, actions speak louder than words and we will not rest until Justina is safely back in our loving arms. We will work tirelessly to ensure she will not be just another number in Massachusetts's DCF system."
Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Pelletier family spokesperson, added, "We are thankful for the personal involvement and commitment by Secretary Polanowicz in working on getting Justina back into the loving arms of her family. Yesterday, he shared with Jennifer Pelletier and myself his desire to put together a reunification plan that would bring Justina home. Our hope and prayer is that this nightmare will end for Justina and her family and she will soon be with them."
Mahoney concluded: "A watchful world is waiting to see what this plan looks like and will it fulfill the DCF mandate of bringing families back together. It would be tragic if the hopes and dreams of the Pelletier family were shattered once again."
Fifteen-year-old Connecticut resident Justina Pelletier has been held in Massachusetts DCF custody for over a year based on a medical dispute between doctors.
