Poland Spring Announces Scholarship Awards

$19,000 to Maine high school students pursuing further education in science, engineering and the environment

POLAND SPRING, Maine, June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Poland Spring Water Company recently presented $1,000 Good Science Scholarships to 19 Maine high school seniors who are pursuing a post-secondary education in science, engineering or the environment.

"We are pleased to give these scholarships to help train the next generation in science, engineering and the environment - fields that are so vital to Maine's economic and environmental health," said Mark Dubois, Natural Resource Manager. "Congratulations to all the students for their academic achievements."

Poland Spring established the Good Science Scholarship program in 2007 and has since awarded $34,000 to high school seniors pursuing further training in fields that are vital to a healthy Maine economy. Poland Spring is committed to giving back and helping make Maine a better place to live and work. Through sponsorships, donations, and volunteering, the company supports important causes and organizations in communities across the state.

The students and their families attended celebratory dinners at their local Poland Spring bottling plants, located in Hollis, Kingfield and Poland Spring. The evening's festivities included a guided tour of the bottling facility and an opportunity to meet Poland Spring staff whose careers are similar to those the students are beginning to pursue.

Dubois, a certified geologist, continued, "As a major employer in Maine, with 800 employees living in 125 communities across the state, Poland Spring knows the value of higher education and advanced training for Maine people. It's what allowed me to find a meaningful career here in my home state and I hope the same will be true for these impressive students."

The group of recent graduates will be attending 11 different higher learning institutions including the University of Maine, Unity College, the University of New England, St. Joseph's College, Eastern Maine Community College and the University of New Hampshire, with areas of study encompassing everything from Civil and Electrical Engineering to Meteorology, Wildlife Biology and Forest Management.
