Practice Fusion Connects 1 Million Patients to Their Doctors Through Newly Launched Personal Health Record Service
Patients Can Now Communicate with Doctors and Review their Medical Records in the Cloud using a Free Personal Health Record Built on the Force.com Platform
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Salesforce.com Dreamforce Conference - Practice Fusion Inc. (www.practicefusion.com), the free, Web-based electronic health record service (EHR) for physicians, announced the launch of Patient Fusion, its free personal health record (PHR) today at Dreamforce 2009, salesforce.com's user and developer conference, held November 17-20 in San Francisco. Built on the Force.com platform, Patient Fusion currently gives over one million patients in the U.S. the ability to connect online with their doctors and their medical records.
Through Patient Fusion, doctors grant patients instant access to their medical records, medications and immunization history. Updates to the patient's records are available in real-time in the cloud. Patients will also be able to schedule appointments, request prescription refills, email their physicians, and, most importantly, share their data with other providers at any time.
"Practice Fusion continues to innovate in the healthcare market by offering a free Web-based PHR that is an extension of the practitioners' EHR. We're unlocking the physician EHR to give patients access and control over their own health data," said Ryan Howard, CEO, Practice Fusion. "The Patient Fusion personal health record is distinct from Microsoft HealthVault and Google Health in that it instantly connects the patient to his or her actual medical record from the doctor's office."
In the traditional medical office, a patient's medical history resides in a paper chart stuffed into a cabinet. Getting copies of a paper chart quickly is nearly impossible. Even medical offices that do have EHR systems rarely have a way to share that information with patients. With Patient Fusion, patients have ownership of their medical information and can research, track or share their data on their terms.
The Patient Fusion PHR is deployed on salesforce.com's secure and scalable Force.com platform. Salesforce.com invested in Practice Fusion in August 2009.
"The healthcare and life sciences community is a rapidly growing sector," said Clarence So, senior vice president of strategy, salesforce.com. "The Force.com platform allows companies like Practice Fusion to quickly innovate around a common objective for improving health. Physicians and patients will both see the immediate benefit of this new connection through Patient Fusion on the Force.com platform."
Patient Fusion is available free to all practices using Practice Fusion's EHR. Medical practices and physicians can register for Practice Fusion online at www.practicefusion.com in less than five minutes and for no cost. More information about the PHR can be found at www.patientfusion.com.
Salesforce.com owns a minority interest in Practice Fusion.
