Pratt & Whitney Powers Learning with National Formosa University Students
SINGAPORE, Feb. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- SINGAPORE AIR SHOW -- National Formosa University (NFU) and Pratt & Whitney signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The agreement allows NFU students to participate in a well-designed curriculum for commercial engine maintenance as well as other professional training at Pratt & Whitney's Customer Training Center (CTC) in China. Pratt & Whitney is a division of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
As a result of the program, NFU's students will gain relevant exposure and training in aviation at Pratt & Whitney over a six-week period. Students receive the same training, both instructional and practical, as aircraft maintenance engineers.
"Students will have a wonderful opportunity to experience the world-class training at Pratt & Whitney's CTC China," said Jon Beatty, vice president, Airline Customers for Pratt & Whitney. "They will receive professional, hands-on aero-engine training while getting familiar with Pratt & Whitney. A P&W certificate will be awarded to students who successfully complete the course."
Pratt & Whitney and the university initiated an industrial cooperation program in 1996. Pratt & Whitney also assisted in establishing NFU's Department of Aviation Engineering Technology and also donated a Pratt & Whitney JT9D engine to the university. In 1998, all students of the first class graduated and received job offers from China Airlines and EVA, which led the Ministry of Industry, Republic of China to give Pratt & Whitney an award for the accomplishment.
Pratt & Whitney's Customer Training Center in Beijing is a joint venture company with partner China Aviation Supply Holding Company. Opened in 2002 and serving more than 1,000 students annually, the training center offers a wide range of commercial aerospace courses and hands-on training opportunities for aviation professionals in the Asia-Pacific region.
Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems and industrial gas turbines. United Technologies, based in Hartford, Conn., U.S.A. is a diversified company providing high technology products and services to the global aerospace and building industries.
