President Obama Calls on all Americans to Share Responsibility for Cybersecurity
National Cyber Security Awareness Month Video is First Ever Online Presidential Address on Cybersecurity
WASHINGTON, Oct. 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) today calls on all Americans to heed the cybersecurity call to action made by President Barack Obama via a video address on the White House.gov blog (http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/Protecting-yourself-online/). President Obama used the National Cyber Security Month address to focus on the responsibility that the government, private sector and everyday citizens share for ensuring America's cyber security.
The President's words are being converted to action this month as hundreds of federal, state and local government agencies, companies, non-profits and everyday citizens have deployed themselves to educate millions of Americans about the importance of online security to themselves, their communities and the nation.
In his online address, President Obama specifically called on all Americans to remember three basic cybersecurity principles:
- Keep security and software systems up-to-date and beware of suspicious email.
- Always know who you are dealing with online
- Never give out your personal or financial information until you verify the recipient is legitimate
"This unprecedented focus at the highest levels of our government highlights the importance of cybersecurity to our nation's economy, national security, and everyday life," said Michael Kaiser, executive director of the NCSA. " We welcome everyone who wants to join the effort to educate computer users and young people on secure and safe Internet use in October and year round."
