Prince George's County, MD expands Free Residential Parking Permit Program with PayLock's Digital Permits

SOMERVILLE, N.J., June 6, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- PayLock IPT LLC, the company that revolutionized parking ticket collections and scofflaw enforcement with its patented Self-Release SmartBoot, has modernized another outdated business process in the parking industry. This time, they have unveiled their proprietary Digital Permits system which dramatically enhances the way in which municipal and university parking permit programs are used and managed.

On May 1st 2012, The Revenue Authority of Prince George's County contracted with PayLock IPT LLC to implement a Digital Parking Permit system. Neighboring Washington, DC, Prince George's County, MD boasts a population of 850,000 residents. This revolutionary new service will enable residents to apply, be granted approval, and receive their permits online or over the phone in a matter of minutes, 24 hours a day. Digital Permit Parking also means that residents will no longer be required to place stickers or decals on their vehicles. Instead, the new system will use the vehicle's license plate number to determine if it has permission to park in its respective permit parking zones.

"I am pleased that the County's Revenue Authority has rolled out this expanded parking permit program which offers digitalized permits," said Prince George's County Executive, Rushern L. Baker, III.  "Our residents deserve convenience and 21st Century services, this program certainly fulfills both objectives.  I also wanted residents to feel empowered to select permit parking options for their respective neighborhoods."

"Before the Digital Parking Permits program, all applicants we were required to fill out paper forms and wait to receive their permit stickers in the mail. It was manual, tedious, and costly. Now, everything is online, which benefits us administratively, and it is a huge customer service improvement for our residents," said Dianne Harris, Residential Parking Permit Program Administrator for the Revenue Authority.

Enforcement of all RPP zones will be conducted using License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology, each of which contains the list of license plates with active permits. When the system's camera comes across a vehicle that is not on that list, the officer will be alerted. This is the same technology used today by the Revenue Authority for their PayLock SmartBoot program, which launched in 2008.

"Among the Baker Administration's goals is the transformation of our neighborhoods, so that residents and businesses alike will know that Prince George's County is one of the best places to live, invest, work and visit.  To achieve those goals, emphasis has been placed on technology and innovation.  This state-of-the-art digital parking permit program will play a vital role in meeting those objectives.  This program is something that communities have been waiting for, and we are pleased that it has become a reality." said Troy Thompson, Division Manager of the Revenue Authority.

"We are delighted to launch this technology-driven solution in Prince George's County.  In doing so, the County will become the largest municipality in the Country to implement a digital parking permit program. In our experience with the Revenue Authority, we know that they seek innovative ways to improve everyday life in the County. This program is a prime example of one of these improvements," said Chad Collins, Vice President for PayLock.
