Private Access to Test New Facebook Privacy App
Leading privacy innovators release SetMyPrivacyâ„¢ -- a new app that makes Facebook's privacy settings simpler to use. The intuitive app makes it fast and easy to create privacy settings within Facebook and dozens of other websites that sell personal information without the consumer's authorization or consent
IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Private Access and Consumer Privacy, Inc., developers of Privacy Central, are releasing an application to help consumers create privacy settings in Facebook. Called SetMyPrivacy™, this new technology enables users to set their privacy settings, develop a personal privacy profile, and better protect themselves from invasions of privacy on-line. The consumer can use this information to create these settings themselves for free, or for just $0.99, let SetMyPrivacy do this for them in about a minute.
As a bonus for upgrade to the premium version, the SetMyPrivacy App provides users a free PrivacyAlert™ report that allows each user to see whether personal information they feel is important to keep private is exposed on any of the most active marketing websites that collect and sell consumers' personal information without prior authorization or consent. If any such exposures are found, the free report will enable the user to visit the offending websites and request that the information be removed.
"When you really take the time to study what Facebook has done, it's very confusing," says Zoiner Tejada, a Stanford computer sciences graduate and the founder and CEO of Consumer Privacy, Inc., who served as lead architect for the new SetMyPrivacy application. "And for someone who wants to control who can see their personal information, this presents a real challenge, particularly when you appreciate that most of Facebook's default settings are geared to all information being as public as possible."
Consumers can download the new app from www.SetMyPrivacy.com.
About the SetMyPrivacy™ Application
SetMyPrivacy™ operates exclusively as a client side application so it does not require Facebook's approval in order to finally make it fast, easy and intuitive for consumers to make their privacy selections when using the world's leading social media site. And whereas Facebook's privacy settings are strewn across eight separate pages of online user controls, many that have very similar sounding names and descriptions, but that require exactly the opposite selection settings in order to produce consistent privacy wishes, SetMyPrivacy enables everything to be managed by the user from a single dashboard.
"The SetMyPrivacy App makes these selections far more intuitive, and offers the option of automating the process both to save time and in order avoid the need for users to hunt for where each setting is located in Facebook," explains Robert Shelton, the founder and CEO of Private Access, a pioneer in the field of consumer-controlled privacy settings and Dynamic Consent Technology (DCT), and the author of nearly a dozen patents and pending patent applications addressing online privacy dating back to early 1997.
The preview version of the new SetMyPrivacy app is being tested beginning with Windows desktop users, and if well received by consumers, plans are already in place for releasing the free SetMyPrivacy App for Mac users, as well as Apple's iOS and Android mobile platforms.
