Prototype Design Firm Wild Iron Premieres "The Video Camera Accessory for the YouTube Generation"

Company founder Robert Stone came up with the idea for the SteadyWheel camera stabilizer thanks to his young son's interest in shooting videos.  Stone realized that every video enthusiast, especially when they're shooting high-action footage like sporting events, wants to achieve some of the same effects they see in movies.

He saw the market for a simple, durable, affordable tool that the serious enthusiast or the indie filmmaker on a budget could use to get the effects they were looking for.  The SteadyWheel is a small hand held circular camera mount.  It works with most cameras—GoPro, iPhone, DSLR, small camcorders—anything with a standard 1/4 - 20 tripod mount.  It's designed to get those tricky low-angle shots, give you smooth, clean pan shots, and reduce shake and jitters.  Because it's so lightweight (only 1.6 lbs.), it moves as easily as you do.  And it's a third of the price of other similar devices.

SteadyWheel works using a principle known as the "moment of inertia", accomplished by moving the bulk of the device's weight to its perimeter.  The camera remains steady in the device much in the same way a tightrope walker keeps his balance by means of a horizontal pole.

The SteadyWheel is molded of industrial ABS plastic, with no moving parts, meaning it can withstand rough treatment.  It's also resistant to salt water, making it ideal for capturing diving and surfing footage.
