Public Health Reports Will Host A 'Meet the Author!' Webcast Entitled 'How Healthy Could a State Be'

WASHINGTON, March 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Monday, March 22, 2010 at 1:00PM EDT, Public Health Reports will host a "Meet the Author!" webcast entitled "How Healthy Could a State Be." Dr. David Kindig, Emeritus Professor of Population Health Sciences and the Emeritus Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences at the University of Wisconsin  School of Medicine and Public Health, will discuss how states might expect their mortality rates to be lowered if they obtained the best levels of health determinants observed among all states.  He will also talk about the major areas requiring investment if these goals are to be met and address how states will require different investment strategies depending on their pattern of modifiable and non-modifiable determinants. Dr. Kindig's presentation will be based on his feature article in the March/April 2010 issue of Public Health Reports.

Dr. Daniel Fox, President Emeritus of the Milbank Memorial Fund in New York City, NY, will provide accompanying commentary to Dr. Kindig's presentation. Dr. Fox will focus his discussion on the politics of achievable mortality, particularly related to applying rigorous research on the effectiveness of interventions to improve health.

The webcast will begin promptly at 1PM EDT. Information about joining the webcast, as well as general Public Health Reports information, can be found at http://www.publichealthreports.org/.
