Public Picks College Scholarship Winner

    BELLEVUE, Neb., May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- One college scholarship.  One new
 car.  One new lease on life.
     Five finalists campaigning for votes for a chance to return to college and
 earn a degree.
     Now it's up to the public to decide the winner of Bellevue University's
 Best Degree of You Career Makeover contest.  Anyone with access to the
 Internet can vote at to decide the winner of the
 contest, which awards one person a scholarship to Bellevue University and a
 2005 Chevy Cobalt.
     Hundreds of people entered the contest, which kicked off March 28.  A
 panel of judges interviewed 25 semifinalists and selected five finalists.  The
 judges made their decisions based on self-expression, personal strengths,
 need, leadership and suitability for college-level work.
     The finalists come from all walks of life, ranging in age from 26 to 34.
 There are single mothers; a two-time breast cancer survivor; an honors student
 saddled with medical bills and unable to finish college; and a young man
 home-schooled as a youngster while he traveled the Mexico-United States
     The contest scholarship covers tuition and fees for either an
 undergraduate or graduate degree.  Books are not included.  The dollar value
 of the scholarship is $10,380 to $21,150, depending on the number of previous
 college credits earned.  The dollar value of the car is $15,120 (MSRP).
     To enter, a person had to complete an entry form, either in paper form or
 online.  Entries were judged on the basis of self-expression, personal
 strengths, needs, leadership and suitability for college-level work. The entry
 form included a section for people to write, in no more than 250 words, what
 difference they believe a college degree would make in their lives.
     Bellevue University offers 37 undergraduate and 10 graduate degree
 programs.  The university offers seven degrees: Bachelor of Science; Bachelor
 of Arts; Bachelor of Fine Arts; Master of Science; Master of Arts; Master of
 Business Administration; and Master of Healthcare Administration.
