Purple Power Play Returns to Titletown
Powered by Briggs Auto, the event is held to build support for the Kansas State Wildcats.
MANHATTAN, Kan., Aug. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The sense of pride surrounding the annual Purple Power Play on Poyntz was strong before, but now it's going down in Titletown, and this year is bound to be one of the wildest ones yet. Powered by Briggs Auto, the event will be taking place on Wednesday and Thursday this week. As always, it is being held the two days before the first home football game. The only change is that it will not be taking place on Poyntz this year. Construction on the street has caused the event to be moved into Manhattan City Park. The event's committee doesn't expect the detour to have any negative effect on the event, however.
Since its creation in 1988, the Purple Power Play has come a long way, and attendance at the event has only risen. The event is held for the entire community, not just alumni and students. Last year more than 20,000 attendants came within the two days to have fun and support the Kansas State Wildcats. The event features more than 80 local vendors, an inflatable carnival, fireworks and entertaining performances from the K-State marching band, cheerleaders and coaches throughout the day. The event starts at 6 pm both nights and goes until sundown.
The event has become a gigantic pep rally for the Kansas State Wildcats football team, which has been quite unsuccessful in the past. The first home game for the Wildcats will be taking place this Friday, August 30, at 7:30 pm. They are facing North Dakota State.
The event is powered by Briggs Auto, but the real energy comes from all the loyal K-State fans. Briggs Auto is an auto group located in Kansas which operates a number of retail automotive franchises in Topeka, Manhattan and Lawrence KS.
