QUA® Awarded NSF Certification for Manufacturing of Q-SEP® Range of Hollow Fiber Ultrafiltration Modules
CHARLEROI, Pa., Feb. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- QUA®, a leading-edge developer of advanced membrane products for water and wastewater treatment applications, has been awarded NSF/ANSI 61 Certification by NSF International, Ann Arbor, MI, USA, for the manufacture of its Q-SEP® range of Hollow Fiber Ultrafiltration (UF) Modules. NSF/ANSI Standard 61 certification is for Drinking Water System Components - Health Effects, the recognized health effects standard for all devices, components and materials that contact drinking water.
Recognized by regulatory agencies at the local, state, federal and international level, the NSF Certification Mark means that the product complies with all standard requirements. NSF conducts periodic unannounced inspections and product testing to verify that the product continues to comply with the standard. An independent organization, NSF writes standards and certifies products for food, water and consumer goods to minimize adverse health effects and protect the environment.
"QUA is dedicated to manufacturing products of superior quality and operating our facilities according to the highest standards. We are very pleased to have been awarded this prestigious certification by NSF, which is recognized internationally for its commitment to protecting and improving human health on a global scale," said V J Nathan, Technical Director, QUA Group LLC.
Like all QUA products, Q-SEP ultrafiltration fibers and modules are manufactured in the company's state-of-the-art membrane manufacturing facility with continuous monitoring and quality control to maintain consistent quality.
Q-SEP Hollow Fiber UF modules are used for such applications as pretreatment to reverse osmosis (RO) systems (brackish and seawater applications), purification of surface and well water for potable applications, filtration of industrial water, and wastewater recycle and reuse.
The modules contain UF membranes manufactured with QUA's patented "Cloud Point Precipitation" method. This innovative process ensures a high pore density along the length of the fiber and uniform pore size distribution in the membrane. Q-SEP modules deliver superior performance characteristics and product water quality that surpass the quality from conventional UF modules, with low silt density index (SDI) and excellent rejection of bacteria and viruses.
Advantages of Q-SEP UF over conventional media filtration include improved filtrate quality; SDI typically less than 1; removal of virus, bacteria and germs as well as microbiological and colloidal matter; improvement of downstream RO performance; and consistent treated water quality, irrespective of changes in feedwater quality. In addition, Q-SEP eliminates the need to add coagulant chemicals for most applications.
Founded in 1944, NSF International is committed to protecting and improving human health on a global scale. NSF International is an independent, not-for-profit organization that provides standards development, product certification, auditing, education and risk management for public health and the environment. Manufacturers, regulators and consumers alike look to NSF International for the development of public health standards and certification that help protect the world's food, water, health and consumer products.
