NEW YORK, March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, at an emotional awards
ceremony in New York City, Queen Latifah named Shelly Thomas of South
Euclid, OH the national award recipient in the second annual CURVATION(SM)
PROJECT CONFIDENCE(SM) Awards. This is the culmination of a nationwide
search to recognize women who project the power of confidence and encourage
it in others, ultimately helping them live more fulfilling lives.

In special recognition of her work in building women's confidence,
Thomas was presented with a $10,000 grant from CURVATION(R). She will also
receive a portion of the proceeds from sales of the newly launched
 CURVATION(TM) Apparel's limited-edition "Angel T" T-shirt to be donated in
June to coincide with NATIONAL WOMEN'S CONFIDENCE DAY(SM). Both
contributions will go toward the InnerBeauty Foundation, a non-profit group
Thomas founded in 2002, which is dedicated to providing women suffering
from drug abuse, homelessness, violence and disease with access to programs
and services to restore their lives. This organization hosts an annual "Day
of Beauty" event, offering women in homeless shelters the opportunity to
have their hair cleansed and styled in beauty salons, free-of-charge, as
well as receive lunch, gently worn professional clothing and job-hunting
advice from motivational speakers. The premise of the organization is that
helping women feel good about their outward appearance can restore
 self-confidence that comes from within.
Thomas was nominated by her friend Jackie Williams who noted in her
entry that Thomas' actions were worthy of being honored because "she not
only saw the needs of the less fortunate, but also sprang into action by
doing something about it." Thomas' goal going forward is to offer the
program year round; something that may now be possible. She is also
undertaking the task of making wigs for women who are suffering from hair
loss due to cancer and other diseases.
"For the second year in a row, we received hundreds of nominations from
across the country showcasing amazing stories of confidence and empowerment
by women who are truly making a difference in other women's lives," said
Queen Latifah, the brand's spokesperson, inspiration and creative advisor.
"While all of the nominees were inspirational, and we would love to
recognize everyone, Shelly's efforts clearly embody the message of these
awards, and she is truly deserving of national recognition. We are honored
to be able to help her continue her great work with the InnerBeauty
 Foundation."
Thomas was one of five finalists flown to New York City for a special
awards ceremony and luncheon at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel with Queen
Latifah and other national leaders of the women's organizations who
selected the finalists. In addition to Queen Latifah, the panel included
 Dr. Lorraine Cole, CEO of YWCA USA; Joi Gordon, CEO of Dress For Success;
Danielle Carrig, Executive Director of Step Up Women's Network; Pamela
Edwards, Fashion & Beauty Features Editor of Essence; and Pam Hardee,
 Marketing Director for
CURVATION(R), the line of sensual and liveable intimate apparel that
 sponsored the program.
Each of the five CURVATION PROJECT CONFIDENCE Awards finalists received
a beautiful selection of CURVATION(R) products and a $3,000 grant from
CURVATION(R) toward the program or cause with which they are affiliated so
that they can continue their work in building women's confidence. The four
other finalists included Tangie Bell of Shreveport, LA; Wendy Gladney of
Pasadena, CA; Yolanda Starks-White of Fort Worth, TX and Marina Wolf-Ahmad
of Boston, MA. All of the women were surprised in their individual
hometowns a month ago via a videotaped message from Queen Latifah letting
them know that they were a finalist.
Attendees of the awards ceremony were treated to an exclusive viewing
of Queen Latifah's new CURVATION APPAREL line, a lifestyle collection
developed by the makers of CURVATION(R) Intimates in response to consumer
demand for contemporary, fashion-forward apparel. CURVATION APPAREL is a
complete wardrobe of figure-flattering, runway-inspired styles. The line is
available in sizes 12-22 at the newly launched www.shopcurvation.com, an
online community that offers an exciting glimpse into Queen Latifah's life
in an interactive shopping environment that provides fashion, style, and
news for the curvaceous woman. CURVATION APPAREL is pleased to donate a
percentage of proceeds from the limited edition "Angel T" T-shirt toward
 Thomas' InnerBeauty Foundation.
