Radical Grows Up - axle 2013 software and updated Gear appliances deliver 10x asset scale increase, UI and workflow advances Radically simple software brings media management to a wider range of small and midsize video teams
BOSTON, Oct. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- One year after shipping version 1.0 of their award-winning media management software, axle Video is now shipping its second major release of the software, axle 2013. axle 2013 maintains the browser-based, radically simple design philosophy and affordable pricing of the original software, while incorporating these key improvements:
- Support for up to 300,000 assets, a 10x improvement over axle v1.0
- Support for thousands of files in a single directory, using Google-style paging system
- Support for archiving and restoration of files to designated Archive Catalogs
- Faster user interface response when browsing directories and performing most operations
- Full timecode display on proxy clips in the axle media player
- Numerous additional feature and performance refinements
The new axle 2013 solution is available in software-only form, or in the axle Gear integrated appliance solution.
axle software has been designed to make it easier to search and manage media files and simplify collaboration, and is in use by small and midsized workgroups in post-production, education, broadcast, sports, corporate, and religious organizations worldwide.
One of these customers is Doug Garside, Chief Engineer of Edit19, a leading post-production house in Manchester, UK. According to Doug, "We employed axle Video's software to help streamline our client approval process. We have been able to dramatically reduce the time taken and the expense normally associated with sending out client approval DVD by using axle. We simply email our clients a secure link directly from axle, the customer can view the file add comments and set the approval flag. This instantly updates in our system and alerts the responsible member of our production team that the clip has been approved and is ready for delivery. No more burning of DVDs and expensive couriers waiting to deliver packages around the country. This significant time saving lets our creative teams spend more time working on our clients' content, and everyone wins"
These kinds of capabilities, while possible with more complex MAM applications, have been impractical or uneconomic to implement for small and midsize teams. For the first time, axle Video's software technology and appliances are making it practical to address these needs for a wide range of users, worldwide.
In recent months, axle has added a number of resellers including Keycode Media, based in Los Angeles; Video Technologies Group, covering the New York tri-state area, Jigsaw24, Tyrrell and Digital Garage, in the UK, and Opale and AV2P, in France. The company expects to announce more resellers worldwide soon, and plans to launch axle 2013 in the Asia-Pacific region later this year.
The company is holding three webinars this Thursday, October 17th to highlight the capabilities of the new software. The webinars are at 10AM EST, 4PM EST and 10PM EST and are open to the public.
