Reader's Digest 'Word Power(R)' is Now Available in Online Game Format - Rd.com launches free games using Arkadium's FreePlay technology -

    NEW YORK, April 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Reader's Digest announced
today the launch of a new online game version of "Word Power(R)" for rd.com,
the Web destination for Reader's Digest magazine. The Word Power online game,
created for rd.com by Arkadium, is based on the popular feature in the
magazine and the Reader's Digest National Word Power Challenge(SM), a national
competition for schoolchildren in grades four through eight; both test
 vocabulary skills and knowledge.
Arkadium, a leading provider of unique online games and community-based
game software, re-engineered the magazine's popular offline pastime for the
online world. Now, Word Power players will have access anytime, anywhere to
one of their favorite games by simply logging on to www.rd.com.
"We are thrilled to be launching four new Word Power games, designed in
conjunction with Arkadium," said Rosemary Maggiore, General Manager, Reader's
Digest Digital Business Group. "These new games will allow us to offer fun,
engaging and educational tools to our site visitors."
Jessica Rovello, Chairman of Arkadium, said: "Re-engineering this popular
game for rd.com was an exciting process. We look forward to continually
helping Reader's Digest meet the needs of its loyal base of site visitors and
 magazine readers."
There are four versions of the game, each of which uses questions to test
vocabulary knowledge. In the four versions, players must either choose
correct definitions from multiple choices, unscramble a group of letters,
match words with definitions, or match words with their synonyms. All of the
games are timed and points are calculated. High-scoring players will be
 recognized on the site.
Word Power has appeared in Reader's Digest since 1945 and was created by
Wilfred Funk, the son of the creator of the Funk&Wagnalls dictionary. Nearly 6
million Reader's Digest readers complete Word Power each month.
Arkadium also announced the launch of its FreePlay games on rd.com.
FreePlay is a flash-based game solution developed by Arkadium and available
through many popular content-oriented Web destinations. FreePlay games have
been proven to help drive fun and interactivity online and increase user
session time and repeat visits. Games available on rd.com include such
favorites such as, Solitaire and Mah Jongg.
