PORTLAND, Ore., Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Regence BlueCross BlueShield of
Oregon has announced that it will sponsor the Pro-Am portion of
The Fred Meyer Challenge golf event, set for August 3-4. It precedes
The Fred Meyer Challenge, which will be held August 5-6.
The Challenge has contributed more than $9.5 million to children's charities
since 1986. Mark Ganz, president of Regence BlueCross Blue Shield of Oregon,
said the fund-raising aspect of The Challenge convinced the company to become
more prominently involved. Last month, organizers of The 2001 Challenge
distributed to Oregon-based children's charities $850,000 raised during last
year's summer event.
"Simply put, The Fred Meyer Challenge has a long history of giving back to
the community. That ties in well with our mission," said Ganz. "Our company
exists to provide ways for people in Oregon to band together to help those who
need it. Making good health care accessible for those who need it is our
primary focus. Healthy, well-adjusted Oregon children are part of that focus.
Children's charities that benefit from this great event are ones we have
supported in the past and this provides a new venue for us to help ensure they
fulfill their missions."
