Shoney's will guarantee the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department a minimum donation of $20,000. In addition, Shoney's chairman and chief executive officer David Davoudpour announced that the Nashville-based family restaurant company will pledge an additional $5 per registrant in the event, so the overall donation will be higher.

"Shoney's is a responsible corporate citizen in the many communities where we have employed and served our neighbors for 62 years and we support the men and women in blue. This is especially true in Nashville, where Shoney's is proudly based," said Davoudpour. "Public safety and emergency preparedness are essential elements to Nashville's economic growth and community well being. The Shoney's 2009 5K Family Fun Run is our way of giving back to those who protect and serve this great community."

The event and the resulting Shoney's donation will also spearhead the establishment of the Nashville Police Fund which will help officers offset the expense of earning college degrees, according to Nashville Police Chief Ronal Serpas.

"I am humbled by Shoney's amazing generosity and strong desire to support the men and women of our police department," said Chief Serpas. "Whether you walk or run, this will be a fun day for all visitors and citizens of Nashville and an annual event that will reward the police who protect and serve it."
