DUBLIN, May 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Microsoft has released a new version of SharePoint, its team collaboration and content management software, with several updates expected over the coming year. This includes improvements to OneDrive and a mobile app for iOS, Android and Windows.
Employees are accessing and sharing more content on mobile devices than ever before, resulting in an increased demand for content management applications. The mobile content management market is expected to grow 21.8% by 2020, with organizations encouraging employees to access corporate content outside office premises to stay productive.
It has been three years since the the last version of SharePoint. In an attempt to attract new users, the company is offering free migration to its cloud software from competitors like Box and Google Drive. This is available for any business with 150 or more users on Office 365.
One of the advantages SharePoint has over its competitors is that it offers a variety of functions. It can be used for sharing files, finding information or to create intranet sites. With the proliferation of mobile devices, organizations need cloud-based systems to help manage digital content. Enterprise content collaboration has grown in popularity, with a growing demand for improved organizational productivity, access and a pooling of the knowledge base.
Microsoft are incorporating Office graph technology into OneDrive. This will suggest content for individual users, and allow them to view colleagues' profiles and see what they are working on.
