RF Technologies(R) Installs Safe Place(R) Solution for Pediatric and Infant Security at St. John's Children's Hospital

Helps increase security inside and out, including children's playground

BROOKFIELD, Wis., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- RF Technologies(R), a leading provider of radio frequency identification monitoring systems and healthcare security solutions, announces it has partnered with St. John's Children's Hospital of Springfield, Ill., to help prevent its infant and pediatric patients from abduction. The recent installation of Safe Place(R) Infant/Child Security Solution ensures that if an abductor attempts to remove an infant or child through a protected doorway or other point of exit, an alarm will sound. In fact, any attempt to tamper with system wiring or tags by unauthorized personnel will send an alert to the monitoring system.

"We determined Safe Place to be the best option for the security of our Children's Hospital and have found it to be very user-friendly," said John Mosher, Security Manager at St. John's Hospital. "With the new system in place, our nurses are happy, I'm happy, and the parents are happy. It's running better than I could have expected."

Offering the region's only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for premature and critically ill newborns and the area's only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, St. John's Children's Hospital has installed the Safe Place solution on three floors of the hospital. It selected the security system because it was the most user-friendly option among those considered. The system satisfies the hospital's security needs, including the delivering of approximately 2,000 babies per year.

"St. John's Children's Hospital provides quality pediatric health services to 50,000 children each year. We are proud that our Safe Place Infant/Child Security Solution is in place to protect the hospital's young patients," said Keith Koby, Executive Vice President at RF Technologies.

In addition to the standard computers necessary for the Safe Place system, RF Technologies also supplied software on the labor and delivery floors so staff can login to the system bedside, therefore having much more access than what is typically available. Further utilizing the capabilities of Safe Place, St. John's Children's Hospital expanded coverage to the outdoor playground, so children can play and still be protected.

"RF Technologies' infant security system provides St. John's Children's Hospital with greater confidence that our young patients are being cared for in the safest environment possible," said Peggy Curtin, Assistant Administrator for St. John's Children's Hospital and Women's Services.

On-going training and proactive monitoring enforce system capabilities

RF Technologies provided on-site clinical education on Safe Place for one full week, ensured internal staff trainers were well-versed, and provided a follow-up refresher course 60 days after the initial training session. On-going support has also been available as needed. Practice abduction drills have taken place and will be conducted quarterly so that the staff maintains its familiarity with the system. RF Technologies also supplied a remote monitoring service so it can proactively detect and solve any possible issues with the equipment before they surface.
