- Bosch cooperates with Canadian and U.S. regulatory authorities for voluntary recall of SKILSAW® Model 3316 Compound Miter Saw due to laceration hazard
- Canadian recall announced July 5 and U.S. recall set for July 10
- No injuries or damages reported to date
- Consumers being provided a replacement kit to address condition
MT. PROSPECT, Ill, July 5, 2012 /CNW/ - The Robert Bosch Tool Corporation announced today that the company, in cooperation with the Canadian Electrical Safety Authority, is issuing a recall in Canada of 618 SKIL® Brand Miter Saws Model 3316-01 and 3316-02 manufactured with date codes 111, 112, 201, 202, 203 and 204. The recall is being issued because the lower guard hub can break, allowing the lower guard to contact the blade during use. No injuries or damages have been reported to date. A recall of the same models will take place in the U.S., with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission expected to announce the action on July 10.
Consumers should stop using the recalled products immediately and contact Robert Bosch Tool Corporation for a lower guard replacement kit. Consumers are asked to contact Bosch at 1-888-727-6109, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday, or visit the company website at www.skiltools.com.
The saws, which were manufactured in China and carry an Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) certification, were distributed from January to April 2012, and sold at various retailers, including Canadian Tire, The Home Depot and Rona in Canada and Lowe's Home Centers and OC Tanner in the U.S. Some of the subject miter saws were bundled with a SKIL® Model 3310 table saw and the table saw is not affected by this recall.
"Bosch has removed this model saw from retailers' shelves, the situation has been resolved, and the saws that have been subsequently produced have the new guard in place," said Terry Horan, president, Robert Bosch Tool Corporation. "Bosch has built a reputation for manufacturing high-quality products. We value the loyalty our power tool customers hold for our brands. We regret the inconvenience this situation causes and we are making every effort to ensure continued product quality and safety."
