SAN ANTONIO, July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will deliver the keynote address at StormCon '03, the second annual North American Surface Water Quality Conference & Exposition, on July 29. The conference brings hundreds of experts from the rapidly growing stormwater industry to San Antonio July 28-31. As Chief Prosecuting Attorney for Hudson Riverkeeper, an environmental advocacy group, Kennedy is one of the leading voices for water quality protection. He has been instrumental in developing a network of more than 90 Waterkeeper programs around the world. StormCon is the premier gathering of professionals involved with surface water quality. Hundreds of public-sector officials, regulators, private engineers, and manufacturers come together each year for three days, concentrating on surface water-quality challenges. The event also includes the world's largest trade show of stormwater-related products, equipment, and services. The federal Clean Water Act marked its 30th anniversary last year, and the country has made great progress in the last three decades in cleaning up water pollution from factories and industrial sites. A continuing water pollution problem, however, is the pervasive runoff from roads, parking lots, construction sites, and other urban environments. Each time it rains, stormwater runoff carries sediment, oil and grease, hydrocarbons, fertilizers, and other pollutants into the storm drains and from there to rivers, lakes, and beaches. Combating this type of pollution is the goal of the rapidly growing stormwater industry. Forty StormCon conference sessions will highlight technologies and strategies for improving water quality, paying for local stormwater programs, and -- one of the industry's biggest challenges -- teaching the public about stormwater. More than 110 vendors will gather in the exhibit hall to give demonstrations of the latest stormwater treatment technologies. Attendees can ask questions and compare solutions to see what will work best in their areas. The exhibit floor will also provide those attending the conference the opportunity to meet with their counterparts attending from throughout the world. StormCon takes place July 28 through 31, 2003, at the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter on the River Walk in San Antonio, Texas. Press passes will be available at the conference, free of charge. StormCon is hosted by Forester Communications (www.forester.net), publisher of Stormwater magazine and other publications focusing on infrastructure and the environment.
