Rural State Entrepreneurs/SBIR Awardees to Lead Live Virtual Event Hosted by USSOCOM
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Jan. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) SBIR program will host a live virtual panel discussion titled, "Successful Entrepreneurs from Rural States Talk about Growing an Advanced Technology Firm," on February 4th, 2014 from 2 – 3 pm EST. The online event will feature a panel of business owners and entrepreneurs from rural states, each of whom has leveraged SBIR funding to help propel their technologies.
"The USSOCOM SBIR Program Office is dedicated to encouraging more underserved firms to compete for SBIR award monies to grow their advanced technology firms," explains Dr. Jenny C. Servo, President of Dawnbreaker, Inc. and moderator of the panel. "As SBIR award winners, this diverse group of business leaders has proven they can meet both military and commercial needs and their expertise is of great value to the SBIR and small business communities."
The Federal SBIR program awards $2 billion to small businesses every year, and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is aiming to improve the capability of small research and development businesses with an emphasis on emerging and underserved small firms. These include women-owned, minority-owned, and veteran-owned small businesses, as well as small businesses in rural states – all of which are equally encouraged to compete for USSOCOM SBIR awards.
Mr. Shoaib Shaikh, Co-Founder and Financial Operations Manager of XploSafe, Mr. Dexter Myers, Vice President of Pacific Engineering Inc., and Mr. Chad Mullen from the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science & Technology (OCAST) will lead the interactive discussion. Each panelist will have five to six minutes to introduce themselves and their company, followed by a moderator-led interactive discussion on topics such as the SBIR-funding process, working with government agencies, and what it takes to achieve transition through the SBIR program.
