GLENDALE, Calif., May 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Action sports rank as one of the fastest-growing sports categories today, with more than 50 million people participating last year alone. The Nestle Butterfinger(R) "Break Out" Challenge gives amateurs around the country a chance to showcase their talent in BMX, skateboarding or Motocross. Athletes between the ages of 15-25 are encouraged to send in a one-minute video of their best "Break Out" moves in one of the three disciplines: BMX, Skateboarding or Motocross.(1) The top nine finalists (three from each discipline) will receive a three day/two night trip to Los Angeles for the experience of a lifetime as they perform for BMX pro Ryan Nyquist, Motocross star Nate Adams and top Aussie skateboarder and television commentator Jason Ellis. The entry deadline is September 13, 2004. Nyquist, Adams and Ellis will crown one finalist from each discipline the Butterfinger "Break Out" Rookie of the year and award $1,000 cash and $500 worth of gear, along with the opportunity to have their likeness integrated into a future(2) PlayStation 2 version of the Tony Hawk skateboarding video game series. Entries will be judged based on the following criteria: 40% Style (appearance, look of bike, skateboard); 40% Personality (passion and excitement for action sports); and 20% Creativity (uniqueness of moves). "Last year, we saw some amazing tricks, and I'm challenging all the hardcore skaters, bikers and motocross riders across the country to submit a tape with their best breakout moves," said Nyquist. "It's really simple -- just put your best moves on tape, send them in and let me and Butterfinger check them out. You might just be on your way to Los Angeles." "Breaking out of the ordinary is a lifestyle that Butterfinger and action sports share," said Tricia Bowles, manager, Public Relations, Nestle Confections & Snacks. "We're excited to team up again with Ryan Nyquist, Nate Adams and Jason Ellis and provide all of the potential stars across the country a platform to showcase their tricks." Nyquist, Adams and Ellis, were on-site at the THQ World Supercross GP & THQ AMA Supercross Series finals on Saturday, May 1, at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, to kick off the Butterfinger "Break Out" Challenge. Skateboarders and BMX riders came from all over southern Nevada to be videotaped and entered into the Butterfinger "Break Out" Challenge, as they took on a specially-designed course.
