SAI Global Addresses Corporate Governance Issues at NACD and PLI October Conferences
PLAINSBORO, N.J., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Alice Peterson, Chief Ethics Officer for SAI Global Compliance Americas, a leading provider of enterprise-wide compliance, ethics and risk management solutions for global companies, will be speaking about corporate governance at two industry leading events this week.
Ms. Peterson has served on public company boards for more than a decade at companies including Hanesbrands, 360 Communications, Williams Partners and Navistar Financial, with assignments including compensation, audit, conflicts and search committees. She will participate in a panel discussion titled "Making It Work: Safeguarding Your Reputation" at the 2009 Corporate Governance Conference sponsored by the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD). Panelists will provide guidance on what to do when it all goes wrong, based on their own boardroom experiences.
Ms. Peterson will also speak at the Practising Law Institute (PLI) Directors' Institute on Corporate Governance, presented in cooperation with the Society of Corporate Secretaries & Governance Professionals. She will participate on the Audit Committee panel addressing issues such as knowing the compliance and ethics responsibilities of audit committees within a company, and unlocking the synergies between the audit committee and the General Counsel.
In both presentations the concept of 'wrongdoing' and ensuring enterprise oversight of risk management are stressed.
"The global financial failures of the last two years were a wake-up call for management and boards to think differently about risk," stated Ms. Peterson. "The continuing economic weakness is added impetus to incorporate relevant compliance metrics and disciplined risk mitigation into future strategies."
"Alice brings a unique perspective to corporate governance as a result of her experience as both a corporate director and the architect of a leading helpline, ethics reporting and case management solution used by organizations around the world," said Andy Wyszkowski, Global Head of Compliance for SAI Global. "She provides deep insight into both the root causes of wrongdoing as well as the ways in which companies can mitigate and manage reputational and operational risk."
NACD is the only national membership organization including nearly 10,000 directors and executives from leading public, private and nonprofit companies. The 2009 NACD conference is being held in Washington, DC October 18-20. PLI's conference, being held in NYC on October 8, will bring the latest developments, trends and best practices in corporate governance to corporate directors.
