KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, April 18, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Sakthivel Alagappan, born the youngest son to Alagoppan and Letchumy in Kampung Malaysia on 6 March 1970, prefers to go by just Sakthivel. When his mother died, he was raised independently by his father. This brought about a lot of hardship throughout his youth. During all of his school days he struggled through his family's poverty to maintain good graces. Whether it was assisting his father's business or taking on a job of his own to provide extra income for the family, Sakthivel Alagappan was focused on serving the community in any way possible. It is this drive and spirit that he hopes to take to parliament.
As a highly spirited undergraduate, he was actively involved in a wide range of activities organized by university's student's council and MIC in the capacity of an ordinary member. Upon graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) armed with a burning desire to serve his community, Sakthivel got his first taste of politics as MIC Branch Chairman for Taman Serdang Jaya in 1996, a position he holds till today.
From there, social work played a central role in his political vision. Sakthivel played a pivotal role in championing the cause of the Malaysian Indian community at large. Over the years, Sakthivel has put in tremendous effort in spearheading the refurbishment and rebuilding of Tamil schools and infrastructure developments to ensure a better quality of teaching and environment in the schools. Numerous dialogues and sessions have been held with headmasters, teachers and parents on the one hand and with education ministry officials on the other. This has borne fruit as shown by the very positive results obtained by students in the respective Tamil schools.
His commitment, professionalism and selfless service to the community also earned him recognition from the Federal government when in the year 2003, Sakthivel was conferred with the Pingat Pangkuan Negara (PPN) and most recently the Pingat Kesatria Mangku Negara (KMN) both from His Majesty the Yang Dipertuan Agong.
Sakthivel Alagappan contribution to society only continued from there as the MIC Puchong Divison in 2006. He covered a plethora of societal issues, going beyond just racial boundaries. Using his modest background, one fraught with challenges he overcame, Sakthivel AlagappanKuala Lumpur hopes to appeal to the everyman in Kapar. He understands their everyday plight and pledges to promote and enrich their lives.
