San Antonio dealership compares two electric vehicles 2014 Honda Fit EV offers longer driving range than 2014 Ford Focus Electric

SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Benson Honda, a dealership in San Antonio, has developed a list of comparisons which puts the 2014 Honda models up against comparable competitor vehicles. One such comparison puts two popular electric vehicles head-to-head. The dealership found that both the 2014 Honda Fit and 2014 Ford Focus Electric are quality electric vehicles, but when it comes to the features and capabilities that matter most to buyers in the electric vehicle market, the Fit provides more benefits.

The dealership reported that the driving range—the amount of miles a car can drive on a full charge—was higher in the Fit. The efficient Honda provides an 82 mile range, while the Focus Electric is only capable of traveling 76 miles. One of the downsides to electric vehicles is that the large battery often takes up storage space, but with the battery under the back seat, the expansive storage capabilities aren't sacrificed in the Honda Fit. The split-fold rear seatback assists the Fit in providing nearly 50 cubic feet of storage. As the Focus Electric doesn't offer a folding seatback, the cargo volume is limited to roughly 15 cubic feet.

Despite its extended driving range and larger size, the time required to charge the electric vehicles is shorter with the Fit than it is with the Focus Electric. When plugged into a 240-volt charger, the Focus Electric can reach a full charge in four hours. From a low battery-indicator light, the Fit can be fully charged in three hours. Both vehicles utilized a lithium-ion battery.

Since the release of the Honda Fit in the U.S., it has made the Car and Driver 10Best Cars list for seven consecutive years. Although it is only in its second year as an electric vehicle, the Fit is taking down competitors that have been in the electric vehicle market for years.
