San Antonio Dealership Releases Crossover Utility Vehicle Comparison

SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- One of the downsides to mid-size cars is their lack of storage. Often consumers sacrifice storage for the appealing fuel economy that can normally only be found in a mid-size. Car manufacturers have found a solution in crossover utility vehicles which combine storage capacities of an SUV with fuel economy ratings of a mid-size car. To assist consumers looking for a suitable crossover utility vehicle, a San Antonio-based dealership compared two popular CUVs. When comparing the 2014 Honda CR-V vs 2014 Dodge Journey, Benson Honda stated that while both CUVs have a lot to offer, the CR-V beat out the Journey in a number of categories.

What the dealership found is that in the Dodge Journey, storage capacity in the rear is inhibited by the third-row seat. Though it gives the Journey a larger seating capacity, space is already tight and two additional seats don't seem logical for a crossover. Benson Honda reported that the lack of legroom in the back of the Journey makes the third-row seat practical only for children and early teenagers. With the second row seat collapsed, the five-passenger Honda CR-V offers 70.9 cubic feet of storage, 3.3 cubic feet more than the Journey.

Consumers also gravitate towards a CUV for power and towing capacity that cannot be found in a mid-size car. Benson Honda reported that though both the CR-V and Journey have a 2.4-liter engine, the 185-horsepower output of the CR-V is larger than the Journey's 173 horsepower. That allows the CR-V to get an additional 500 pounds in towing. The dealership found that the increase in power doesn't stop the CR-V from getting almost double the highway fuel economy of the Journey. On the highway, the CR-V is capable of 31 MPG, where the Journey is limited to 16 MPG.
