SANS Institute Hosts Free Continuous Monitoring Workshop for Government Agencies

DHS Continuous Diagnostics & Mitigation Educational Workshop Helps Government Personnel Determine the Best Mix of Products and Services

BETHESDA, Md., Oct. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SANS Institute today announced the DHS Continuous Diagnostics & Mitigation (CDM) Workshop taking place Nov. 6, 2013 in Washington D.C. The event, which is free to all federal, state and local government personnel, was organized to create greater awareness of the benefits of the CDM program in the fight against cyberattacks and to help agencies understand which technology and services offered through the program are best for their organization.

"From a financial standpoint it is becoming increasingly difficult for agencies to increase security and maintain compliance. The CDM program addresses these issues by providing a rare opportunity for agencies to increase their compliance and achieve actual security improvements at no cost," said John Pescatore, director of Emerging Trends, SANS. "To ensure participating agencies achieve the best possible outcome, a clear understanding of today's risk, the program benefits, and greater knowledge of the products and services available is essential."

Joining forces with SANS at this event are several notable senior government officials including Jane Lute, CEO, Council on CyberSecurity; Gene Dodaro, Comptroller General, GAO; John Streufert Director US Dept. of Homeland Security, Federal Network Resilience, DHS; and more.

Agenda highlights for the workshop include:

  • An overview of the threats government systems face
  • Continuous Diagnostics/Monitoring : Increasing US Cybersecurity Levels
  • Real stories of using Continuous Monitoring to make a difference
  • Real-world government use cases including a SIEM Solution Shootout, Vulnerability Assessment Solution Shootout, Endpoint Monitoring Shootout

Federal, state and local government personnel may attend the event free of charge; contractors and vendors are required to pay a fee. The DHS CDM Workshop will be held at the Dupont Circle Hotel, Washington, D.C. The event will be simulcast as well as recorded for rebroadcast for those unable to attend.
