Santana Sweeps 42nd Annual Grammy Nominations; 'Supernatural' Receives 11 Nominations in 10 Categories

    SAN RAFAEL, Calif., Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame
 musician Carlos Santana has been nominated for 10 Grammy Awards with his
 group's six-time-platinum Arista release, "SUPERNATURAL," which also garnered
 an additional songwriting nomination.  All told, Santana earned nominations in
 the coveted Record of the Year and Album of the Year categories, as well as
 nods in the Rock Album, Rock Duo or Group, and Rock and Pop Instrumental
 categories.  Santana also earned a nomination in the Pop Duo or Group, two
 nominations in the Pop Collaboration with Vocals categories and one for Song
 of the Year.  The single "Smooth" featuring Rob Thomas and the album
 "SUPERNATURAL" jumped to #1 on both Billboard's Album and Singles charts.
 "Smooth" became the longest running #1 song of 1999, remaining in the top spot
 for an astounding 12 consecutive weeks.

     -- Best Rock Album
     -- Best Instrumental Composition for "El Farol"
 
     In addition to the Grammy Award nominations, "Supernatural" also received
 nominations for the American Music Awards in the categories:  "Favorite Band,
 Duo or Group" and "Favorite Album."
