Sargento Named Official Cheese of Green Bay Packers
Renews Commitment to Tackle Hunger
PLYMOUTH, Wis., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Sargento kicks off this year's
football season as the official cheese of the Green Bay Packers. The Packers
will announce the partnership with Sargento Foods Inc., a family-owned,
Wisconsin-based company, during the October 9 game against the New Orleans
Saints. As the official cheese of the Green Bay Packers, Sargento will
continue its successful "Touchdowns for Charity" program for the third season,
where Sargento donates $1,000 to the Hunger Task Force for each Packer
touchdown in the 2005-06 season.
"Sargento is not only proud to be the official cheese of the Green Bay
Packers, but also grateful to join forces again with the Packers and the
Hunger Task Force to represent the best of what Wisconsin offers -- a strong
work ethic, a commitment to excellence and a generous nature," said Sargento
Chairman Lou Gentine.
Throughout the season, a running tally of funds earned for every touchdown
will be displayed on Lambeau Field's Tundra Vision scoreboard. Since its
initiation in 2003, "Touchdowns for Charity" has raised more than $100,000 and
helped the Hunger Task Force to feed hungry families in Wisconsin.
Gentine is also encouraging Packer fans to join the "Touchdowns for
Charity" team. Fans can become involved by pledging a dollar amount to
contribute to the Hunger Task Force for each touchdown the Packers score.
"Thousands of hungry people in Wisconsin rely on the Hunger Task Force to
survive," Gentine said. "Sargento is wagering that this will be a banner year
for the Green and Gold and encourage fans to help us make it a winning season
for everyone."
Sargento's commitment to feed the hungry extends outside of the football
season. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Sargento and some of its
valued cheese partners, Foremost Farms, Leprino Foods and Hilmar Cheese Co.,
as well as packaging manufacturers Georgia-Pacific and Alcan, banded together
to provide relief for Louisiana- and Mississippi-based families by donating
100,000 pounds of cheese.
