SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- With the country's renewed
focus on the military, and the recent success of "Black Hawk Down," Zap2it
( http://www.Zap2it.com ) asked users to choose the Best U.S. Military Film
ever made from a list of more than 90 films that involved a U.S. military
event. More than 4,000 voters took part, and Steven Spielberg's realistic
WWII film "Saving Private Ryan," was overwhelmingly picked as the best
military film with 1,670 total votes. "Apocalypse Now" came in second and
"Pearl Harbor" took third place. The poll was held on Zap2it.com during the
month of January, ending Monday, Jan. 28.
Ted Turner's classic TV-film "Gettysburg," the HBO miniseries "Band of
Brothers" and the German film "Das Boot" received many write-in votes from
fans, but the list was limited to films that appeared on the big screen and
which involved the U.S. military. Films merely set in wartime eras,
including "Casablanca" and "Schindler's List," were also not included.
Two of the Top 10, "Pearl Harbor" (third place) and "Black Hawk Down" (at
fifth) were released within the last year, and one, "Bridge Over the River
Kwai" (eighth place) goes back to 1957.
