Schering-Plough Mourns Death of Former Executive Steven C. Chellevold

    KENILWORTH, N.J., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Schering-Plough
 Corporation (NYSE:   SGP) announced with sadness today the death of former
 executive Steven C. Chellevold, 56, following a long battle with cancer.
 Prior to his retirement last July, Chellevold served as chairman, Global
 Supply Chain Operations, Schering-Plough Corporation.
     "Steve was a valuable member of our senior management team.  He brought
 strong leadership and strategic vision to the many employees who were
 fortunate enough to work with him over his long career with the company," said
 Fred Hassan, chairman and chief executive officer. "Steve built trust inside
 and outside of the organization. He was a person of great courage.  On behalf
 of all Schering-Plough colleagues worldwide, we would like to extend our
 condolences to the Chellevold family."
     Chellevold joined Schering-Plough's animal health business in 1970 and
 subsequently held positions of increasing responsibility, becoming manager,
 manufacturing, in 1982.  In 1983, he was appointed manager of strategic
 planning, interferon production, for Schering-Plough's U.S. prescription
 pharmaceutical business, and in 1984 he rejoined Schering-Plough's animal
 health business as senior director, technical operations. Chellevold became
 executive director, biotechnology, in 1990 and senior director, New Jersey
 production operations, in 1991.  He was appointed general manager of Schering-
 Plough (Pty.) Ltd., South Africa, in 1995 and a regional sales director of the
 company's Key Pharmaceuticals business in 1996.  In 1998, he became vice
 president, worldwide technical operations, for Schering-Plough's animal health
 business, and in 2000 he was appointed senior vice president, technical
 operations.  He assumed the role of chairman, Global Supply Chain Operations,
 in Oct. 2003.
     Chellevold was a graduate of Edgewood College, Madison, Wis.
