Scholarships for Accounting Students Offered Through the Illinois CPA Society

Get the financial help you need; online applications now available for scholarships up to $4,000

CHICAGO, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Times continue to be tough, especially for college students - costs are increasing, funding sources have been cutback, the competition is greater for a smaller number of part-time jobs and there's less support from parents facing their own financial problems. For students pursuing an accounting degree with plans to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), help is available through Illinois CPA Society (ICPAS) Scholarships of up to $4,000, funded by the CPA Endowment Fund of Illinois.

All ICPAS scholarships require applicants to be U.S. citizens permanently residing in Illinois and enrolled in Illinois colleges or universities. Candidates must have a 3.0/4.0 GPA or equivalent, plan on sitting for the CPA Examination and demonstrate a course of study that reflects this goal. The following scholarships are available for the 2010 - 2011 academic year:

  • The Illinois CPA Society Accounting Scholarship

Multiple scholarships of up to $2,000 each are awarded to seniors or graduate students with financial need as a consideration.

  • Illinois CPA Society Women's Executive Committee Advancing Women In Accounting Scholarship

Multiple scholarships of up to $4,000 each are awarded to women seniors or graduate students who demonstrate leadership potential.

  • Herman J. Neal Scholarship

Multiple scholarships of up to $4,000 each are awarded to African-American juniors, seniors or graduate students.

  • Book Scholarships

Several scholarships in the amount of $500 each are available to reimburse juniors, seniors or graduate students for textbook expenses.

The deadline for all applications is April 1, 2010. Candidates may be qualified to apply for more than one scholarship if they meet the different criteria. Online applications, and more information, including details about other scholarships and resources, can be found at www.icpas.org.

The Illinois CPA Society can provide these scholarships thanks to the efforts of the CPA Endowment Fund of Illinois and the generosity of ICPAS members and their firms and organizations which give back to the community and support the future of the profession.
