- 10.000 Euro to be Won

In 2010 the Press Cartoon Europe (PCE) will award press cartoons published in the course of 2009 in newspapers or magazines in any EU member country. Participation is free of charge.

Last year, the Press Cartoon Europe Grand Prix 2009 went to the Swedish cartoonist Riber for a cartoon published on December 6th 2008 in Sydsvenskan. Riber was awarded a cash prize of Euro10,000.

European cartoonists, who wish to compete for the Press Cartoon Europe 2010, can submit a maximum of three cartoons, published in the course of 2009 in a newspaper, magazine or periodical available to the general public and published in one of the member countries of the European Union, plus Switzerland, Turkey, Norway and Iceland.

Each cartoon participating in the PCE 2010 must be accompanied by the name and date of the publication where it originally appeared and by the author's personal details: family name, first name, full postal address, telephone numbers, email address, website.

Cartoons competing for the PCE 2010 must be sent electronically (jpg format: minimum 300 dpi) Friday 1st January 2010 at the latest to jasper@presscartoon.com. All texts and captions either within the cartoon or sent with them in a language other than French, English, German, or Dutch must be translated into one or another of these four languages.

On Friday 22nd January 2010 the selection committee of PCE will nominate the cartoons chosen among all those submitted to go forward for the PCE Grand Prix. The authors of these cartoons will be notified immediately.

The jury, composed of journalists from several EU countries, all accredited by the European parliament in Brussels, will meet on Wednesday 17th February 2010 and will select the winning entry to be awarded the PCE Grand Prix 2010.

The author of the winning cartoon will receive a cheque for 10.000 EUR as well as a bronze trophy created by the Belgian artist Ever Meulen at the opening ceremony of the International Cartoon Festival at Knokke-Heist (Belgium) on Saturday 26th June 2010.

All nominated cartoons in the PCE 2010 will be shown in the great exhibition of this International Cartoon Festival in Knokke-Heist from end June until end September 2010.
