Second High-Place Competition Finish in a Month for Greentech Start-Up Chalk up another "win" for Nitro-Turbodyne of Venice, California

VENICE, Calif., Dec. 27, 2011 PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Chalk up another "win" for Nitro-Turbodyne of Venice, California. For the second time in the span of about 30 days, the clean-tech startup's Cold-Turbine™ Technology has placed at the top of an international competition by being chosen to proceed to Round 2 of the Nova Scotia Cleantech Open.

"We're extremely pleased," stated Ed De Reyes, Nitro-Turbodyne's Chief Technology Officer and Acting CEO, "we believe that this announcement by Innovacorp demonstrates what we've known all along - that our technology has substantial merit. We're elated that other people see the potential of our invention as well," De Reyes continued.

The Nova Scotia Cleantech Open picked 10 companies to continue on to the 2nd round, where pitches and business plans will be presented to a panel that will judge the winner of close to $300,000.00 (CN). According to the organizers of the Nova Scotia Cleantech Open, they were inundated with applications and closed entries on December 1, 2011. On December 15, 2011, Innovacorp announced the Round 2 winners. "We were notified very early in the morning - before the start of work - on Thursday (December 15). We spent the entire day congratulating each other," De Reyes said.

Previously, Nitro-Turbodyne placed as the first runner-up in the National Cleantech Open - Global Ideas Competition, on November 13, 2011. Out of countless entries from around the world, Nitro-Turbodyne finished second to Resolute Marine Energy -- of all the entries from the United States and around the globe.

"We have a lot of work to do to prepare for Round 2, but the Nova Scotia Cleantech Open is worth it," stated De Reyes.

Nitro-Turbodyne first exhibited the Flash-Expansion Micro-Turbine (FEMT) at the Global Clean Energy Congress in Calgary, AB, Canada in November where De Reyes also gave several presentations, including one that can be seen on Ustream.

"We're looking forward to our trip to Halifax in February, and to showing the Nova Scotia Cleantech Open what a great technology we have to offer," continued De Reyes. "We're going to be very busy, getting ready for our Nova Scotia presentation, then for our exhibit at the Global Petroleum Show in Calgary in June, 2011," he said.

Nitro-Turbodyne in the creator of Cold-Turbine(TM) Technology - a cool, clean, quiet, maintenance-free and inexpensive alternative to the internal combustion engine. Nitro-Turbodyne's initial product line is a low-power (<100 watt) electric generation set for instrumentation and telemetry applications such as remote oil fields and remote seismic/geophysical observatories. Their unique product, the Remote Instrumentation Power Generation Unit (RIPGU) is maintenance-free and can run uninterrupted for months – without the need for lubrication, coolant or other maintenance.

"We've demonstrated that all you have to do is to hook the RIPGU to a tank of clean, renewable and inexpensive Liquid Nitrogen, and you'll operate for months without any need for human intervention," De Reyes said, "The RIPGU is designed to work in any environment -- including extremely harsh environments --especially where storage batteries can freeze, or where solar cells, wind turbines, gasoline/diesel motors and fuel cells are easily pilfered. Our RIPGU doesn't need sun or wind or volatile fuels to operate in remote, harsh environments," he stated.
