Secretary Margaret Spellings to Headline Discussion on Education Reform at the Bipartisan Policy Center
Panel Discussion will also include Ron Tomalis, Dr. Jerry Weast, Segun Eubanks and Andrew Rotherham
WASHINGTON, April 26, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) will host a discussion on education reform with former Education Secretary Margaret Spellings, Pennsylvania Secretary of Education Ron Tomalis; Segun Eubanks, Director of Teacher Quality at the National Education Association; and Dr. Jerry Weast, Superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools, on Monday, May 2, 2011 at 8:30 a.m. The discussion is part of the BPC's Bridge-Builder Breakfast series and will be moderated by Andrew Rotherham, an education writer and columnist for Time.
With the recent focus on America's growing national debt, the debate over what, if any, additional investments should be made to improve the country's education system is moving to the forefront. At the event, national, state and local education leaders will have a candid discussion about the federal political landscape surrounding education, including the reauthorization of No Child Left Behind legislation, successful reforms at the state and local levels and the impact growing budget cuts have on the classroom.
The BPC's Bridge-Builder Breakfast series highlights institutions and individuals who are reaching across political lines to solve critical challenges facing the country. At a time when partisan conflicts often attract the most attention, the BPC is committed to creating a forum for those, who despite differing viewpoints, are willing to collaborate in order to advance the debate on tough issues.
