Secure Energy Thanks Members of Illinois Congressional Delegation for Support of Department of Energy Loan Guarantee Application

DECATUR, Ill., March 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Secure Energy received notice from Representatives Phil Hare (IL-17), Aaron Schock (IL-18), John Shimkus (IL -19), and Senator Roland Burris that a bipartisan letter has been sent to U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu urging him to carefully review Secure Energy's loan guarantee application for its coal gasification plant scheduled for construction in Decatur, IL. Congress created the loan guarantee program in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 to spur the deployment of alternative energy technology projects like Secure Energy's coal gasification plant.

"Representatives Hare, Schock, Shimkus, and Senator Burris have shown great leadership in urging the Department of Energy to consider this important loan guarantee application for Secure Energy's coal gasification plant."

Kenny further stated, "Members of the Illinois Delegation recognize the critical need for these loan guarantees in the current financial crisis. Secure Energy's project has all the necessary permits and is 'shovel-ready' to begin construction. This project will create over three hundred construction jobs as well as hundreds of ancillary support jobs in coal mining and trucking. In addition, once the plant is complete, it plans to employ eighty-six full-time operations employees. Secure Energy stands ready to bring this alternative energy project that will foster our country's energy independence to Illinois, but it needs the U.S. Department of Energy's partnership to begin construction. It is our hope that we can continue to work with the Illinois Delegation and the U.S. Department of Energy to move this important project forward."
