MEMPHIS, Tenn., April 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Robin Joines, Sedgwick's senior vice president of risk management, accepted the Ron Judd Heart of RIMS Award at the annual conference and exhibition of the Risk and Insurance Management Society in San Diego yesterday. She was also named to the board of the Spencer Educational Foundation, which supports the education of tomorrow's risk management and insurance leaders.
Joines received the Heart of RIMS Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the Memphis RIMS chapter and advancing the study of risk management throughout the area. She has been an integral member of the Memphis RIMS chapter for nearly 15 years. Joines has served the chapter in a leadership role since 2007, culminating in her appointment to the presidency in 2013.
During Joines' tenure as president, the Memphis chapter achieved greater financial stability by changing the format of its meetings, significantly increased its monetary support of risk management education, expanded its base of member volunteers, and strengthened relationships with universities across western Tennessee and in neighboring states Arkansas and Mississippi. In addition to her involvement in RIMS at the local level, Joines serves on the national student advisory council and recently concluded a four-year term on the member and chapter services committee.
For the last three years, Joines has served as a judge for the Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge, evaluating students' papers and oral presentations on risk management topics. She also participates in Spencer's Risk Manager in Residence and internship grant programs. Herself a Spencer Scholar, Joines is on the board of Gamma Iota Sigma, the collegiate fraternity for international risk management, insurance and actuarial science.
"Robin's incredible efforts as president of Memphis RIMS have helped to create a high performing chapter," said Gregg Hammann, Sedgwick's chief operating officer. "Her skilled leadership and unwavering commitment to the future of the risk management profession make her most deserving of this coveted honor and an outstanding candidate to represent Sedgwick on the board of the Spencer Educational Foundation."
The Heart of RIMS Award recognizes the volunteer contributions of a RIMS member who exemplifies the heart of the organization by keeping a local chapter, and hence the society, vibrant and resilient. The award is dedicated in memory of Ron Judd, who served as RIMS' executive director for more than 20 years.
Since 1979, the Spencer Educational Foundation has awarded $5.6 million in scholarships and $3.25 million in grants to risk management students and academic departments. The organization was named in honor of the late Robert S. Spencer, who served as president of RIMS from 1977 to 1978. The foundation is an affiliate of the national RIMS organization and is supported by individuals, corporations, local RIMS chapters and fundraising events like today's 5K Fun Run presented by Sedgwick.
