September 11th Fund Reaches $89 Million

NEW YORK, Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Donations pledged to the September 11th
Fund, created by United Way and The New York Community Trust to help respond
to the immediate and longer-term needs of the victims, their families and
communities affected by the events of September 11, have surpassed $89 million
since the tragedy.
This is an increase of nearly $30 million in three days and is in large
part due to the generosity and support of major corporations and foundations
throughout the world, some of which have agreed to match employee
contributions to the fund, as well. They include:

United Way of New York City and The New York Community Trust are
working with city, state and federal agencies, as well as nonprofit
organizations to determine where and when the funds will be distributed. All
contributions -- 100 percent of each donation -- will be applied to provide
needed help.
More than 50,000 pledges, totaling approximately $7.6 million, have been
made via the Internet alone.
