Shopko and Wrigley Donate Over 60,000 Easter Eggs to Local Organizations
GREEN BAY, Wis., March 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Easter just got a lot sweeter for kids throughout Green Bay thanks to a donation of more than 60,000 Easter eggs from Shopko and William R. Wrigley, Jr. Co., a subsidiary of Mars, Inc. to non-profit organizations that serve children in the Green Bay area.
On Monday, March 25, the plastic, candy-filled Easter eggs will be distributed to these 16 local groups: Encompass; House of Hope; Boys & Girls Club; March of Dimes; Salvation Army; Paul's Pantry; YMCA; City of DePere Parks & Recreation Department; Big Brothers Big Sisters; YWCA; Golden House; NEW Shelter; Green Bay Area Public School District McKinney-Vento Homeless Student Program; Holy Family School; Neville Museum and Freedom House.
"One of the best parts of being a member of the Shopko team is knowing we are making a difference in the communities we serve, not just through our local store presence, but through our charitable efforts, which are at the core of our company," said Mike Bettiga, Shopko Interim CEO and Chief Operating Officer. "Green Bay is our hometown and we know that many local charities and organizations plan Easter activities for the families and children that they serve. Shopko wants to assist these groups in providing a memorable holiday for them and we are happy to partner with Wrigley to provide these special treats for Green Bay area children."
The donated eggs will be used in a variety of ways among the organizations receiving them including Easter Egg hunts, Easter parties, family night events and Easter baskets.
"Thank you to Shopko for filling our basket with treats for the Easter holiday," said Nan Pahl, Social Services Director for the Salvation Army of Brown County. "The donation of candy filled Easter eggs will be used in our feeding program, our senior program, our children's program, our transitional housing program and our food pantry. We appreciate the opportunity to share these treats with those we serve. Shopko is a terrific community partner and we are grateful for their generosity."
"We are grateful to Shopko and its desire to make the Easter holiday a joyous and fun occasion for our families," said Robyn Davis, President of Freedom House Ministries. "The generosity of the foundation will benefit the families that currently reside at Freedom House as well as the families that participate in our Aftercare Program. We are blessed to have such an organization as part of our giving community!"
Together, Shopko and Wrigley are donating more than 90,000 of the Easter eggs this year to organizations and charities that serve children in Shopko communities across the Midwest.
