SilkAir Selects the Hamilton Sundstrand APS 3200 Auxiliary Power Unit

PARIS, June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- PARIS AIR SHOW -- SilkAir has selected Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), to install its APS 3200 Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) on the airline's future deliveries of 11 firm and up to nine optional Airbus A320 series aircraft.

Hamilton Sundstrand has delivered more than 1,500 APS 3200 APUs to more than 70 airlines for their fleets of Airbus A320 aircraft.

The APS 3200 APU is designed and produced at the Hamilton Sundstrand Power Systems facility in San Diego, Calif.

Originally established in February 1989 as Tradewinds the Airline, the carrier was renamed SilkAir in April 1992. This change marked the carrier's evolution from a holiday resort airline to a full-fledged regional carrier. As a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, SilkAir is based in Singapore. Its positioning as a premium, short-to-medium-haul regional carrier gives it a unique appeal among leisure and business travelers in Asia. Other Hamilton Sundstrand systems on the A319 and A320 aircraft include the Electric Power Generating System and the Ram Air Turbine.
