Sino-German Leather Producer ISA Tan Tec: New Eco-tannery in Saigon Launched With Test Run

At the beginning of October, a test run was successfully launched at ISA Tan Tecs' new eco-tannery in Saigon. Everything is working according to plan, says founder and managing director Tom Schneider: "Our planners, technicians and builders have all worked incredibly hard: The test run has already made it clear that the quality of the products we make here is outstanding - not least because we have a fantastic team here! And I'm particularly pleased that, as we can now see, we will more than meet our extremely ambitious targets for energy and water consumption." A total of 60 employees are currently preparing for the start of large-scale production; in 2010 250 employees will produce two million square meters of leather every year for customers like Timberland, New Balance, Keen and Hush Puppies. The Grand Opening will take place on January 23rd, 2010.

But ISA Tan Tec has another reason to celebrate as well: This sector pioneer was chosen as one of two finalists by the renowned industry magazine "World Leather" in the "Tannery of the Year - China" competition.

For the leather produced at the new tannery, 35% less energy and 50% less water is required compared with the industry average. With the construction of the new production site, ISA Tan Tec has sent out a clear signal during the global financial crisis: The leather producer has invested a total of almost twelve million US dollars in Vietnam. "In this way, we want to make it clear that companies with 'green' values, such as managing resources efficiently and sustainably, will make it through the global crisis in significantly better shape", says Schneider.
