Smarter.com Expands Into China, Opens New Office, Adds Key Executives
First U.S. Shopping Search Engine to Enter China
LOS ANGELES and SHANGHAI, China, Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Smarter.com
announced today that it will be launching a Chinese version of its P4P
shopping search engine in Q4 2005. To support this international expansion,
Smarter.com has moved more than 70 employees to a new 12,000 square foot
office in the Huangpu District in Shanghai, China and hired two senior
executives, Jessica Chen and Eric Zhang, to help manage the company's
expansion in China.
Jessica Chen has been appointed as VP, Product Management and Engineering
Operations. Based in Shanghai, Jessica will provide leadership in Product
Management, Engineering Operations, and maintenance of all existing
Smarter.com products. Prior to joining Smarter.com, Jessica oversaw the Web
Application Development Team at Yam.com, the 3rd largest Internet portal in
Taiwan, and managed Yam's technical support and platform development projects.
She has also worked with several IT companies, including Novell. Jessica
graduated 'Cum Laude' with a BS in Computer Science from Utah Valley State
College and holds a Master's degree in Business and Merchandise from Utah
State University.
Eric Zhang joins Smarter as VP, Engineering. Also based in Shanghai, Eric
will spearhead the development of new products and services for the company.
Eric brings with him over 14 years of experience in enterprise software
development for such firms as InSystems Corp., Vialta Inc., Compaq Canada and
IBM Canada, where he held various development management positions. Eric
received his PhD in Computer Science from Peking University in China, and a
Project Management Professional Certification from PMI.

online shopping in China is still nascent, 15% of Chinese users use the
Internet for shopping information, and we believe that Chinese consumers will
