SOCMA Congratulates Gina McCarthy on Nomination as EPA Administrator
Candidate has Understanding of Issues Facing Specialty Chemical Industry
WASHINGTON, March 4, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA) today congratulates Gina McCarthy on her nomination by President Obama as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
McCarthy has served as EPA's Assistant Administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation since 2009, previously held a senior role in former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney 's administration, and is a former Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. She has held positions at both the state and local levels on critical environmental issues and helped coordinate policies on economic growth, energy, transportation and the environment.
" Gina McCarthy is a worthy candidate and deserving of the nomination, bringing 25 years of service to the table with her work in Massachusetts, Connecticut and most recently the EPA," said Bill Allmond , SOCMA's Vice President of Government and Public Relations. "Though we may not always agree on policy issues, we believe Ms. McCarthy has an understanding of issues impacting specialty chemical manufacturers and SOCMA members. With her extensive experience with air issues and through our previous interactions with her, she is aware of the significant costs regulations impose on small businesses, an awareness that is essential for anyone who serves in the position of EPA Administrator."
McCarthy met with SOCMA's Environment Committee in November, and members were impressed with her candor and sincerity, as well as her desire to better understand the regulatory burdens that SOCMA members face, Allmond said.
"We look forward to working with Gina McCarthy going forward to ensure that we can maintain our economic competitiveness while driving our industry toward continual improvement in environmental performance," Allmond said.
