SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Solar Cookers International will exhibit solar cookers from around the world that are being used to prepare food and safe drinking water. Almost three billion people still cook their daily meals over open fires using various forms of biomass -- wood, dung, charcoal and agricultural waste -- depleting the earth's rapidly vanishing forests and groundcover.

Solar cooking is clean technology. It is a technology that will save the environment, preserve trees, soil, and clean air. Solar cooking significantly reduces the need to forage for biomass fuel and frees children to attend school and women to engage in income generating activities. The exhibition will be at the Church Center at the United Nations, at 44th Street and First Avenue on Tuesday, January 18, from 4 – 6:30 p.m. The Church Center has provided the second floor reception room for the Solar Cooking display, which is being offered in coordination with CoNGO (Committee on Non-Government Organizations).

The exhibition is free and open to guests. A light fare of finger foods and refreshments will be served.
