Solidia Technologies Welcomes New CEO

PISCATAWAY, N.J., Feb. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomas Schuler joined Solidia Technologies as the new President & CEO. Tom brings with him more than twenty-five years of research, engineering, sales and management experience in the building products industry along with a dynamic, visionary, and entrepreneurial leadership style that will expand and build Solidia Technologies into a global company.

Schuler, the former President of DuPont's Building Innovations business, will focus Solidia Technologies on understanding customer needs to design and launch innovative materials that not only meet today's demanding market requirements, but do so with minimum environmental impact. Schuler's extensive experience growing brands and creating markets in emerging economies will significantly help the company as it seeks to license its technology to manufacturers around the world. His focus on customer engagement as well as efficient manufacturing will ensure that Solidia Technologies is a valued partner for all licensees.

"Tom [Schuler] is a masterful strategist and an outstanding leader," says Jan van Dokkum, Operating Partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers, "His extensive experience working in the building materials sector at DuPont will be an asset to the company and we are extremely pleased to have him as part of our team."

Schuler will expand research and development and launch and grow a broad range of high performance, low environmental impact products for the Concrete and Building Products industries. This new class of materials can be used both indoor and outdoor for a variety of products, ranging from pavers to structural precast concrete.

Solidia Technologies enables sustainable production of a new generation of building and construction materials. Products made with this novel technology have excellent physical properties, lower life-cycle cost and smaller environmental footprints than traditional building materials and concrete. The technology uses CO2 as a reactant, consuming and sequestering this greenhouse gas during production.

The company was founded in 2008 and is funded by Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield, and Byers, a premier venture capital firm; BASF; British Petroleum; and Bright Capital, the venture arm of the RU-COM group in Russia.
